From Wikipedia's article on Northern Cardinals:

Young birds, both male and female, show the coloring similar to the adult female until the fall, when they molt and grow adult feathers.[10]

(The footnote is from Cornell University Ornithology Depatment)

I'm happy to report that is an old picture and any male cardinals seen at our feeders now look quite healthy!

This morning's been a good one. I've setup a peanut feeder and am going some more variety now and was able to get a downy woodpecker on my perch.

#1 On perch but in the shadows

#2 In good light but on the feeder

I'll keep at it and maybe I'll get him on the perch in better light?

Dave Very nice pics. I really like the first one---But.....the exposure is a little dark on my monitor---could you bump it up just a tad.

    Nice shots,

    Bob

Unless my monitor is calibrated just like Bobs I would have to agree. But a little more on the woodpecker than the background.

    Nice shots,
    John.
Amateurs worry about gear, pros about the pay, masters about the light, and I just take pictures!

Nice work Dave, background is smooth too.....just get some light on him! If you have a flash the Better Beamer works great for this situation.

Bob - That's too funny, but he shouldn't be drinking and flying.
