Nice capture of the female mallard take off Joel. But I believe your capture of the HB is a hatch year male....the (many) black spots (females are nearly all white w/little discoloration) are indicating the gorget area is transitioning to the iridescent (ruby) feathers....nice perch shot.

I am having trouble with ID of this bird....not sure if it's Forster's or Sandwich Tern. Any experts out there that can help?
I had trouble getting a sharp image as I was in a boat and the water was a little rough. Making matters worse I could not get very close without the bird flying farther away to a new perch. I had to use the 2X converter to get this image.

The background is golden flowers in bloom. In general, native plants in Australia don't flower to the season but to the rainfall, and we have and a little rain lately.
