    Bull elk, Banff National Park
    Canon 1DIII, 70-200 f/2.8 lens, 1/1600s @ f/4, ISO 800

I learned my lesson to always keep the camera handy in the car, with the settings already adjusted for wildlife photography. So when I saw this guy, I was ready to shoot. A second after this, he was gone.

    Hoary marmot, Kootenay National Park
    Canon 1DIII, 70-200 f/2.8 lens, 1/1250s @ f/2.8, ISO 400

I was amazed at how close I could get to this guy. Normally they are very skittish.

Jonathan: Both of those are superb. I like the fur detail and DoF in the 2nd one.

Neuro: Great job capturing that moment. I would like to see a bit more of the see in the distance though.

Btaylor: That's an amazing lizard and photo. That gecko looks unreal.

Muc1: Great plant macro. Really like that frost.

Ehcalum: love the flag photo. Good use of flare

JJ: I love the way she is looking at that bubble.

    Brendan,
That butterfly is terrific. I love the DoF, the variety of colors of the buds on the flower, the whole color palette is like you pulled out a wheel and decided what should be in frame. Very nice.

    muc1,

Well, at least we know what hemisphere you call home, I guess! Nice macro shot. Love the crystalline frost detail.

    JJ,

Just a wonderful, captivating shot of your daughter focused on the bubble. Excellent.

thanks guys for all the kind words of my daughter's picture, really appreciate it!

Brendan, that shot of butterfly is very nice, I especially like the rich color and creamy background. my 70-200 4.0 non-IS seems like not as good as yours.

thanks! I don't think there is a difference in bokeh, I was shooting with bushes ~40ft in the background from 4' away so I got pretty good isolation. I really wish I could get more magnification and for that reason some extension tubes might be on the way.
