    BG-E2 / BG-E2N Question

    Hey All -

Does anyone know if the BG-E2N (40D, 50D, etc) lets you back button focus? I know there's no dedicated AF-On button, but on the grip for the 5D I'm able to change the * button - just like on the camera back.

On the 40D there is an AF-On button but I bought a used BG-E2 and the button swap wouldn't work. I don't know if it's because the grip isn't functioning properly or if that's the way it's supposed to be.

Has anyone used an aftermarket version for the 40D? Bower? Zuikos? Flashpoint? They generally get great reviews but no one ever mentions whether the buttons can be changed to provide back-button focus.

Thanks for any thoughts you can share.

It does. You should be able to use one the buttons to set back focus using the custom menu. I also had a photix (sp?) grip, worked great with backfocus and came with two batteries and a AA battery tray.

Ah great Eh - thanks! I wonder why I couldn't get the button-swap to work on the BG-E2. Well, it doesn't matter. I'm going for a 3rd-party grip anyway.

    Thanks again!

btw, I found that Phottix grip you mentioned on Amazon - still available...
