    Assignment 13: Vertical Compositions -- Congratulations elmo_2006

Congratulations Jonathan Huyer on the last assignment! He has quickly gotten a subject in for the next assignment so here is the thread for Assignment 13: Vertical Compositions. Jon's description is below.

"For the next assignment, how about vertical compositions (i.e., portrait rather than landscape)? The photo should be one that is a 'natural' fit for a vertical orientation. The main reason I have chosen this assignment is because I have approximately zero such shots in my collection... I almost always shoot in the horizontal! I'm looking forward to getting inspired by your submissions once again."

Ok, I'll be the first! []

These photos are of a lighthouse by Lake Michigan in SE Wisconsin where I live.It was built in 1866.The first photo is oneof my very first taken with a dslr (my old Rebel T1i and 55-250mm kit lens) & the second was taken with my 7D and 24-105mm.

It just seems to make sense to shoot waterfalls in portrait. I can't decide which I like best.

The first three falls are located along the Minnesota north shore of Lake Superior.

Cascade Falls on the Cascade River

Devil's Kettle Falls on the Brule River

    Fall River Falls

This waterfall is located along Highway 99 in British Columbia, Canada.

    Shannon Falls

Great assignment idea! It was tough to find much in my collection. Here are 2 very different shots.

I agree, a very good assignment! Here is my submission:

[Edit] shrunk it down a little so it would be easier to look at in one go!

This probably won't be the one I use. But here is a portrait. 700mm style, Mount Rushmoore
