    Should I trade? 300mm f/4 L IS for a 24-70mm f/2.8?

My 300mm has been sitting there forever and all I use is my 50mm. Should I just trade it for the 24-70mm? I haven't been doing wildlife lately, only portraiture and event photography. All your thoughts? Thanks in advance.

or maybe I can trade my 300mm f/4 L IS and my 1.4X teleconverter for a 17-55mm f/2.8 IS and a 100mm f/2.8 macro??? what do you all think again?

I guess it depends on whether IS will be necessary for your intended use. The 24-70 is a good general purpose lens. So is the 17-55. Which is worth more--IS and wide angle or more focal range and reach?

That's an easy problem to solve. Just sell your 300mm and the very next day you will find that it is precisely the lens you need. (Same rule applies to whichever lens you happen to leave at home when you go out shooting.) []
