    Canon Offers Locking Mode-Dial Upgrade for 7D & 5DII

Bryan mentions this in Canon News.

I think it will be a worthwhile upgrade, asI hit the dial by accident all of the time.

<span style="font-size: 9pt; color: black; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';"]I will be having my cameras modified.I have wanted this for a while now! When shooting a wedding I have two bodies hanging off of me from Black Rapid straps and my dials are constantly rotating inadvertently.<o></o>

I'll pass. I think I accidentally rotated the mode dial only once so for, across the three bodies and 1+ years of shooting with them. But there have been a lot of time when out hiking with my 7D that I see a bird flying by unexpectedly, and a quick spin to the end (C3 is my BIF setting) allows me to get the shot. Inserting an extra button press into that process would hinder, not help. I have accidentally rotated the QCD on occasion and applied EC, so the lockout there makes sense - but it can also be easily enabled/disabled at will, unlike the locking mode dial.

But since they put it on the 60D and are offering to retrofit the 7D and 5DII, this may become the new standard for non-1-series bodies.

Which firmware do you want for your 5D2? Basic is $300, Premium is $900, and Platinum (with working AutoISO!) is $5000.

When I got the 7D last week, one of the first things I looked over was how the Dial was situated. It seemed to be better than the 5D Mark II.

It has been an annoying problems with the 5D, the design of a giant knob on top of the camera just doesn

I would like this. I use a Black Rapid strap, and since the camera hangs at my side the nob gets turned frequently.
