I just get a good distance from the fireworks. Set the camera up on a tripod with my remote shutter switch. Using a short focal length lens, I used my 28-135mm at 28mm, f/9. Focus to infinity. camera set in full manual using Bulb exposure. Once the fireworks started I start shooting by holding the shutter open for as long as I feel necessary which depends on how many are going off at one time and how bright they are. Usually anywhere from just a few seconds to as much as 15 seconds.
