Lets start a Winter Landscape thread. Seems like there's enough interest. I updated the title where it already looks like it was under the assignments section I think. I missed correctly identifying that area when I made the post.

Great thread! This is one of my favourite topics. But that's not a surprise, because as they say, up here we get 8 months of winter and 4 months of bad skiing. []

Jonathan, what a wonderful image you captured. The foreground, midground, and background elements are so well composed. That sunrise has got me inspired to wake up early (one of these days)!

Joel, no need to apologize. Your image is just as inspiring.

    Great job fellas, erno.

Thanks very much Damian and Erno. Yes, that's Mt. Rundle. The drive would be more like 1.5 hours from Calgary, but fortunately I started in Canmore so it was only 30 minutes away. Sunrise around the winter solstice is not until 8:45, so it's a very easy wake-up call.

Thinking of the thread, "The Story Behind the Shot", here's a wild story that goes with this photo: I nearly missed getting this shot, because I had to stop on the highway when I came across a pickup truck that was on fire. Actually, it was the cargo that was burning, and the cargo happened to be a load of wrapped Christmas presents (!). I have no idea what could have sparked the fire. I called 911 while the owners were frantically throwing burning presents out of the truck into the snow. Fortunately, they got the fire out, and everyone was okay, but the presents were a write-off. I then carried on to the lake, quickly composed this view, and had only about 5 minutes left to get the shot.

By the way Damian, your profile is great. Love it!
