I can think of a possible use for the remote shutter release, if configuration allows for it.


Can the camera be told not to fire the flash, while still responding to the remote shutter? If so, this flash has two uses. As an RC-6 replacement or as an off camera flash. If someone on a budget wants both features, this could be an ideal solution.

I think you're quite correct, David - it's acting as a substitute for an RC-6 remote control, independent of flash functionality, and can be used in situations where you'd otherwise use the 'normal' wireless/IR remote. Self portraits might be one example. On the downside, it's a lot harder to hide a flash in your hand when you're sitting in a group shot, compared to a remote. On the upside, it's a lot harder to misplace your flash than that tiny remote...
