You're right, this is a tough assignment, but a good one.
This image taught me the virtues of using raw file format. It was almost completely blown out. What was once an unrecognizable image is now, well, let just say an interesting effect.
This is a chair (chairs are my corks):
I think this was my first HDR, and this last one will be my submission:
Some great contributions this time.
I thought if it is about light, then I should probably try and see the light, so I went to St John's Cathedral. Construction started back in 1906 and has been ongoing to this day. There is a lot of stained glass, dark corners and golden light to explore. Here is a shot from the inside, showing me the way out.

Shot with a Zeiss 21mm.

@ Steve - spectacular shot!
@Lars - Beautiful HDR, the tress on the left really stand out in the haze of light.

I like it. Light is perfect for this shot at near, mid and far. Well done.
On my ship-based tour of the Scottish Hebrides this past spring, we cruised around the remote island of St. Kilda by zodiac. We came across this cave, and were astonished at the amazing light coming in from all angles. I used a Canon 5D2, with 24-70 f/2.8 lens, 1/80 sec @ f/4, ISO 3200. No artificial light was used in the shot.
