Wickerprints, that really funny about the blown highlights, AE and AF. I don't think Canon was prepared for Americo. Maybe he should try Nikon and see what the results are.
F/11 came from trying to AF at a similar focal length as the 1D IV at f/8 with a 1.3 crop factor. But I would imagine it would not be very good unless the AF of the 1D X is much better than the 1D IV. Which I don
I think there is more going on than what Canon is spillling out. The 1dx is a combo of the full and 1.3 frame. Neither are birders. I

OK, so based on the reading thus far, it appears that the masses have basically two issues with the 1DX. The 18 MP and the presumed lack of AF at F8---I still have a hard time believing that Canon compromised on that. but for the moment, lets say they did.
If all is as advertised, you get the following improvements:
1. full frame
2. improved speed (Fast shutter)
3. Improved AF---
4. Improved AE
5. Better ISO management (less noise)
6. Better sensor (even at 18mp)=Better dynamic range
7. Better, faster chip set
8. Lots of great features including the in camera multiple exposure --which I find really great
9. video
10. Improved LCD
11. Longer shutter rating.
For me personally, I have to agree with Bryan---I am excited. I don
Bob
The 1.3 crop was nothing more than a compromise to get faster frame rates. Now that you can get that in a full frame Canon, They don

Well said Bob....
I expect to see images from the 1DX that will be amazing due to the advances in the sensor technology. Looks like it was designed to out-perform the Nikon D3 series because the main source of complaints about the Canon 1D series was that it did not auto-focus as well and did not perform at high iso as well. So now, at least on paper, it looks like it could beat Nikon in both categories with even more pixels than the D3.
As for birds....the reduction in "pixels on the subject" compared to the 1D4 is a significant issue in situations where you cannot get closer but it could be the 1DX is the beginning of a new story for Canon and who knows what other versions may come?
The lack of AF at f/8 is an issue too if you invested in the big glass and the TC
Honestly, I agree, Bob. I
