    canon 50mm 1.4 vs sigma 50mm 1.4 vs zeiss 50mm 1.4

I am planning to upgrade on 50mm lens .
The dilemma is between canon 50mm 1.4 vs sigma 50mm 1.4 vs zeiss 50mm 1.4.
Some of the pros and Cons I have read from reviews is

    Zeisss
Cons : manual focus, pics are soft at wide open
    Pros : superior optics.

    Sigma
Cons: trail and error as it has some focus issues ,
Pros :Released recently in 2008 ,sharp and great bokeh

    Canon
Cons : Old technology, not sharp when wide open
    Pros: Cost and good photos.

    Thanks in Advance

If you look at the ISO charts none of those lenses are sharp wide open. The Sigma is "better" until you hit F/4 then Canon and Zeiss are the winners.
Release date doesn't mean anything if you are comparing manufactures, only if you are comparing release dates of lenses from the same manufacture.
I think manual focus vs auto focus is the big point here.

IMO the cheapest lens is the best lens, the Canon.

I've had the Canon and Sigma. I preferred the Sigma for better bokeh, sharpness, flare, and vignetting wide open.

I have also owned both and I agree, +1 for the Sigma! Plus the weight of it balanced out well with the camera and it felt solid using it.

I tried both and ended up with the Sigma. It is IMO a lot better than the Canon. It also has a better build and it uses 77mm filters which was good for me. Mine does require AF adjustments of +13 for front-focusing, but after that it is sharp every time.
I also don't notice a real difference in AF speed between HSM and USM on my other lenses.

It doesn't always mean a lot I think, but of course technology has changed over the years. Coatings and optics have improved. Also newer lenses have (more) of those special glass elements(aspheric or something)

    How about this lens;

gandhi; In an earlier post you were debating between the 35mm F/1.4 and a 50mm. This lens is in the price range of the 35mm L and I think it might be the best choice.

Thoughts any one? I could use a good 50mm as well.

Have you considered renting them to find your personal favourite? lensrentals and borrowlenses have them all.
I have to admit that I would be eager to read your review :-)

I haven't used those three, but I have used the Zeiss 50/2.0MP, brilliant and the Canon 50/1.2, brilliant these are the best at that length, if I had to choose from those selected I would go for the Sigma 50mm. And then if Canon release a 50/1.4 mk2, I would buy that.
But all of the above lenses produce better images than an unreleased lens.
