Best filter for Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM II

Can any one recommend a good filter for Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM II for general photography

It depends of what you need. I use filters just for protection. For this purpose, after several Hoya UV, I prefer B&W clear filters. I have to clean (and replace) filters very often, B&W filters has a smooth surface and they are easier to clean.

The 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II has increased vignetting with a standard filter. For protection, I'd recommend a B+W XS-Pro MRC Nano (UV or clear, whichever is cheaper/more available for you). For a CPL, the B+W Käsemann XS-Pro MRC Nano (which is actually thinner than the Slim mount CPL).

Thank you all for the valuable suggestions, one quick question, though a little out of context from this thread, Iam planning to get the lens from adorama website. There are two options http://www.adorama.com/CA702002ISU.html and http://www.adorama.com/CA702002ISUK.html . The second one , I am getting two extra filters for the same price of the first one. Do you see anything foul with the lens I will be getting if I get the one with filters, may an old one? Any thoughts?

If it was an old version, or a refurbished or demo copy, I'm sure Adomara would state it clearly. A lot of reputable shops have these bundle deals, I cannot see anything wrong with it.

Looks like a great deal .... 1 year warranty on lens means it's new and not grey market I would assume. Those 2 filters are probably worth $200. That would make the total worth $2699 without the current rebate. IOW, you save $500!! I just sold my 1DMKIII and my old 70-200mm so I may order "kit" this as well
