Those lights are just results of the lens used. I would have had a perfect stay except for a run in with a supposed person in need of help. I felt for the guy where he wasted my valuable time, gas and money. Last time I try to help someone, seriously. Pretty much every person in one of these situations is full of shit. This clean cut, mid thirtys individual bought drugs with the money that I gave him and this was all done in front of me while I was in my car waiting for him. I ran after the guy almost catching him at one point buy his shirt but then hit that out of shape wall and started to stumble and could not continue. I then got insulted by the infamous Memphis TN police that came to take my report which never got taken because they did not feel that it was worthy. What a day.

A lot of this picture is about timing and the quality image that the 5DII can produce. All the pics I took form this hotel are coming out better then I could wished and thanks for the kind words.

Business center photo that came out nice too.

Sorry to hear that Bryan. Hope your disappointment subsides by the time you see someone in genuine need.

Great shot of an ordinary scene. Is that your picture on the monitors? (I think that

There is no way to know who has the evil intentions and who really needs help. The more and more that I see these things and hear about other circumstances the more protective I need to become. There is a huge risk of letting strangers approach you and enter your safety space as so many of them do. In the future I'm just going to be much more careful and not allow strange people to approach me. There are acceptable situations to help others like through a church or through friendship being earned over time or even through other people who have relationships with people in need. I am upset at myself for allowing this person to manipulate me and I am disgusted at his attempts to decieve me. The true blessing that I eventually realized and came away with (thanks mom) is that this guy was lucky to get away from me as I might have seriously hurt him or even in the heat of battle killed him or injured or gotten killed myself. Its no joke when the adrenaline is flowing and its easy to forget when enough is enough. By the way the police where acting with me this day just trying to file the report I could have easily been arrested and received an assault charge just for tackling the guy let alone the punching that would have happened. It just boils down to the fact that there no way to tell someone's intentions even if they look nice, deserving and in need. Its way safer and better for society for them to seek professional help through governmental, charities or local organizations as they are out there. What in actuality I did was provide this guy another means of getting drugs which he is going to continue to do until he is stopped. Everytime someone gives money to this guy they are promoting his actions and contributing to the destruction of his life. Enough said.

I know of a bloke in Iquique, Chile, who deals with this situation on a regular basis. He'll offer to buy them some food, the response he gets helps him to quickly discern if they are in need or not.

They are trying to pass what's called a "Good Samaritan" law here in Australia, where it will become illegal to ignore someone in need. If someone say, collapses, or is assaulted etc you may face charges under this law if you walk on by. Not the same situation as you had, obviously, but it made me think about the reason why people don't help out, and I think it is because they are afraid for their own safety and also from passed experience where the need has been fanned. I won't go into why I think this is a stupid law but suffice to say it was an interesting thought topic about human nature. Anyway.... I'm sure nothing will make your blood boil more than watching someone spend your hard earned money on drugs after you just tried to help them.

A slightly more natural HDR, still Photomatix. I shot this for a competition a few weeks ago but it didn't get a placing.

That is a slick image. Looks very natural with a nice balance of exposure. I think the reflection is the money maker with that image.

La Quinta is advertising on this site currently. Here is one of their hotels rooms that I recently shot. Our rules/guidelines have us shooting the rooms during the day so mixed light is always an issue. With this guest room as well as the others rooms I was not able to switch out their bulbs for our specific ultra low watt bulbs which always hampers the overall look when this situation arises.

The mention of the Rokinson lenses has me thinking if the 14mm FE14M-C lens would be an alternative to the Canon 14mm. I already have the recommended PT Lens software but I hear that this lens is weak in the optical department but then I hear its amazing. I'm not super impressed by the 16-35 when zoomed in tight so I don't want to take a step backwards with a new purchase.

5D2, 16-35mm II, f/10, shutter 1/8, ISO 200 This is a blend of 6 images plus a window mask. My window mask could be more apparent but there is a fine line between it looking fake and natural where I think I could go a little more. There is some detail in mine where otherwise that window would be total white with no information recorded including around the draps.

Good on you Rocco, you've exposed your moon beautifully!

@ Bryan, I like the bright window, it makes the room look sunny and inviting. It sells the room.

Took this the other morning, while taking an early morning stroll with the Missus before breakfast. (A few compositional rules broken here but I think it still works).

    Center exposure out of camera.
