    8 x 12, 10 x 15, 12 x 18 picture frames

As you know, a typical print size is 4x6, which is the same dimension out of the camera. The next one up is 8 x 12. So, how come there aren't a bazillion picture frames for this larger size? For that matter, why not 10 x 15 or 12 x 18? Tons of 8 x 10, 11 x 14, but I prefer printing the full image, without a crop to 8 x 10. Many labs will print 8 x 12, 10 x 15 and 12 x 18, no problem.

A local craft store has a frame that fits the 8 x 12 and even found one for a 12 x 18. But, they're blah. Black frames only.

I've done some searching, and found few examples of frame sizes like these.

Sure, I could have them custom made, but those babies are expensive, and with as many as I'd like to hang on my wall (a couple of long hallways), I might get sticker shock with the framing expense![N]

I know, I know....I've spent money on equipment, so......

Sounds like a good oppurtunity for an entrepreneur. I have been thinking of making my own frames, custom for each photo and then the constraints of size wouldn't matter, if the picture is 15" x 36" the frame would be made accordingly. If only I had the time. Good luck with your endeavors!!

The 8x10, 11x14 & 16x20 all perfectly fit the old medium format 6cmx4.5cm. It had been the standard for so many years it will be hard to change. We have been trying to go metric for 40 years and still have not made the change. This is why I have installed an 8x10 crop focus screen.

Do I feel "old" now, I still shot 645 with an "old" Contax. There is an enterprise in Canada that is in the process of making an adapter for the "old" Contax 645 lenses to be used on Canon bodies with full automation.....autofocus and aperature. He will currently adapt many of the Contax N system lenses for the Canon bodies. Conurus.com is the web site for anyone interested.

Alan,I understand your frustration. You can look for 12x18 frames on ebay. As far as I know Walmart, K-mart, Target and even IKEA don't even have 12x18 or 8x12

Here in Dallas, we have a Michaels Art & Crafts store that carries 12x18 and 8x12. They have a website. Maybe you can buy from them online as well.

Dallasphotog, that's where I got mine from. But, they're all black, which is pretty limiting for placement of frames in our house (according to the chief of staff - the wife).

Alan, is there an Aaron Brothers store near you? They have a larger selection of frames than Michael's, I've found, and they definitely have 8x12 and 12x18 stock frames both in black and in other colors.

Alex, no, there isn't. I'm about 3-4 states away from every location of theirs. They do have a web site, though, so I'll browse that and see what is available.

    Thanks for the tip.

I usually print in 11x17, which requires very little cropping, and there are quite a few frames for this size.
