#44 - Sticks (Congrats Jonathan Huyer)

On behalf of Erno James, this is assignment 44: Sticks

I know, a bit different. The subject of this assignment is quite broad and there really are no restrictions, so we'll leave it up to the clever minds of those here on The-Digital-Picture to conjure up their own interpretations of STICKS. Some ideas to get us jumpstarted include:

    • fences
    • branches
    • drumsticks
    • chopsticks
    • sticks and stones
    • out in the sticks
    • sticky situations

    • ....whatever you feel fit.

Well, I have to say all entries were worthy of making the Top 5, so thanks for all who submitted entries to the STICKS assignment. In random order are the chosen finalists:

    Name: ddt0725
Motivation: A great take on STICKS, really pushing the creativity button on this assignment. Lovely color whirl.

    Name: conropl
Motivation: Leading lines, pastels, and a silky smooth long exposure Lake Michigan all make for a great shot.

    Name: Dr Croubie
Motication: A great interpretation of STICKS. Nice lighting and what a subject.

    Name: Jonathan Huyer
Motivation: This is fine art. Lovely shallow depth of field, great low angle natural light, and the sprinkles of snow in the right foreground are all the icing on the cake. The majestic owl is placed perfectly, and he seems to peer directly into the soul of the viewer.

    Name: Steph
Motivation: Nice action, mood, and the perfect shutter speed. This image tells a story.

Best of luck to all and thanks again partaking in the assignment. Regards, Erno James

    ok, eww@that last photo.

I was going to ask if photos of "out in the sticks" counts (because technically, it should be "out in the Styx"). I thought that was just as Aussie saying (like the US saying is, i believe, "in BF, Nowhere"), but seeing as it's mentioned in the post then maybe other people do know the expression too.
Given that I live out in the Sticks as it is (I'm sure Steve can make an Adelaide joke now), I should have plenty of fodder to choose from...

Since the Grand Prix was stolen the most exciting thing for someone to do in Adelaide is to take a photo of a stick.......

Test shot of a new lens I got, thought it might show up if it had bad CA or something.

    Agreed...Enro sets a high bar.....

I am not saying that these are better, but I don't think I'll be able to get out to shoot something original before the deadline. So, here are a few from my archive....from Muir Woods just north of San Francisco earlier this year. The first is my entry:
