    #45 - Roads (Congrats jrw)

On behalf of Jonathan Huyer, this is assignment 45: Roads

The assignment is to take a landscape image that includes a road as a primary element in the picture. The presence of the road should enhance the image, and make it a compelling shot that allows the viewer to visualize themselves driving or cycling on that road and taking in the scene. Often times when shooting landscape pictures we go out of our way to avoid including a roadway in the image. But when it's done right, a road can greatly enhance a composition. Train tracks can have the same effect, and will also be accepted in this assignment. But to keep the scope tight, footpaths will be excluded.

The following entries have been selected as finalists:

    Name: DavidF
Motivation: A great viewpoint that puts you right in the driver's seat. You can immediately visualize yourself being there, enjoying this gorgeous drive. The road really makes the shot work.

    Name: jrw
Motivation: Very effective use of a telephoto lens to compress the scene, to graphically show the challenge that the runners face.

    Name: nvitalephotography
Motivation: A challenging lighting situation that was perfectly executed. It evokes the feeling of a very peaceful morning, with the sun breaking through the fog. I can immediately see myself riding a bike there, and loving it.

    Name: DKSA
Motivation: Great colour and lighting, plus a very nice subject that was thoughfully composed. It is very easy to see yourself right there in the picture.

    Name: bgood
Motivation: Beautiful colours and composition of a very peaceful scene. The road leads your eye right through the frame, and the tall trees create a feeling of majesty and splendor.

    • The poll will be opened for 3 days
    • Good luck and Merry Christmas to all of you!

Thanks, Jan. I should add that these shots represent 100% of the images in my collection that include roads or tracks. I'm looking forward to seeing all your great results, and being inspired to get many more of my own.

This one is just for fun...point and shoot. Unintentional motion blur while taking a turn too fast on a bumpy road while out for a bike ride.

Here's a shot I took out a Horicon Marsh. No beautiful mountains but plenty of farmland in Wisconsin!

Possibly. We were there for less than a day and I took hundreds of pics. Seriously target rich environment.

+1 on the Grain Elevator Jonathan.
That location would be a good one to return to at different times of year and different weather.
