    Angry Flickr changes

Seems Flickr has rolled out a major overhaul to their offerings. For current free users, it seems like a pretty good deal. As someone who has had a Pro account for a few years, I've just had a cursory look at the changes. I can't, in all conscience, use the Yahoo's work 'upgrades' to describe them) - personally, it feels like a slap in the face. I found the Pro account to be the best $25/year I've spent in a long time. As far as I can tell, I didn't sign up for autorenewal, which means when my Pro account is up in a few months, I'm SOL. I'm left asking a question - SmugMug or Zenfolio?

Please share your thoughts on the new Flickr...

I think the image on a recent Gizmodo post sums it up for me...

Looks like it is $50 a year now to be ad free. I thought the pro setup was a good deal too.

I think as a current Pro user you'll be able to renew the pro account. I read it somewhere in what felt like 35 or so different faqs and notes. If I find it again I'll share

Please do. From what I've gleaned, 'recurring Pro' users can renew. One person posted that their account page states, "Your account will renew on <date>," presumably because they opted for automatic payment. Mine states, "Your account will expire on <date>," which I take to mean I'm not a recurring Pro user (I bought a 1-yr then a 2-yr membership).

We'll see...lots of confusion this evening...

"Recurring pro users currently have the ability to renew"

So far so good, but what do they mean by "recurring"? Only users with auto-renew? I couldn't find any more details

Mashable claims to have gotten some clarifications from Yahoo, and indicates all Pro accounts are 'recurring' except perhaps gifted memberships.

"Can I Still Keep my Flickr Pro Account?
Yes. Last year, Flickr migrated all Flickr Pro accounts into recurring accounts. As long as your account is by way of a recurring subscription (currently quarterly, yearly or for two years), you can continue to renew your account once it expires."

    Hope so...

I agree it is not very clear. How would a pro account not be recurring?
Recurring does IMO not imply auto-renewal.

At least on mine, if I got into my account settings and "Manage your Pro subscription", I see "Your Pro account will renew automatically on ...". I don't recall signing up for auto renewal or having an option. To me that sounds recurring. It also looks like the "Pro" badge will no longer be shown.

Too bad for me, it was never easier to be a pro ;-)
