Thanks, I am still feeling that it is more like playing with composites and doing exercises as I push rather hard on learning new techniques.

I too really like the last one posted. Very nicely done!

I am very much out of my comfort zone doing B&W. I took this shot while practicing with my new Lensbaby Velvet 56 and figured it would be a good one to also practice converting to B&W once I saw this thread was brought back to life ...

Nice picture Denise. I really like the blend of the texture onto the flower.

I've always felt that black and white photographs showed elegance and class - even if the subject was not elegant and classy. I do convert some of my images, but when I do I add grain to them to make them look a little older, or something like you would see in a news paper. Here are a few of mine that I like. They aren't new, but I like they way they turned out.

Nice work with the texture Denise.
As I spend more time doing B&W it occurs to me that what I am drawn to is the light, form, and lines. When I see some colour images, often sunsets, that have amazing colours running through them but lack in subject matter or basic composition skills it serves as a reminder of the distracting power that colour can have when people make a fuss over them.

Thank you! I find doing B&W very challenging and what you have said makes me realize that sometimes I am trying to make the conversion with all the wrong photo. Now, every time I am thinking of changing one to B&W, it is going to help me by repeating those words, "light, form, and lines".

Film Noir Bird, I took this one in St. Lucia and tried a Maltese Falcon type of look with the editing style.

Different take with that. Like where you are taking that one.
Came across a dilemma tonight when finishing the editing on some images before printing.
Found that the B&W gave the water the punch I wanted but the colour version had better depth in the scene while also taking focus away from the water. Blended in the B&W to get the water punch and desaturated a bit to avoid pulling focus away.
