    #58 Zoom

On behalf of assignment #56 winner Andy Stringer, I would like to announce Assignment #58: Zoom

    According to Andy:

I’m looking for shots in which the zoom ring is turned during the exposure to create the effect of moving towards or away from the subject. If you only have prime lenses, you can move the camera backwards or forwards during the exposure to create a similar effect. This can work with a wide range of subjects, but may need a relatively slow shutter speed.

    The finalists are:

    neuroanatomist:

    erno james:

    DavidWare:

    Kayaker72:

The poll will be opened for 3 days, good luck!

In case I don't get a chance to take a new shot, I'll enter one from far back in my archives...

    "Zoom"

Those are some cool shots above...very nice.

For my version, kinda sorta???...well not really. This is a cheat and violates the rules, since instead of rotating zoom ring, all I did was a long exposure and let the incoming clouds do the rest...

This assignment, like the others, can be interpreted in a number of ways. I'm really looking for the zoom burst effect and I'll leave it up to participants to determine how to create it. I think Erno's shot suits the topic so as far as I'm concerned it qualifies.

I need to get out and try this, but I wanted to remind everyone that this is the last weekend before the end of this assignment

    Really nice shots everyone.

So......this is the first time I've attempted the "zoom effect" in any shot. Knowing that first attempts rarely work out all that well, I decided to have a little fun with it. First the back story. I am from Idaho and live in New Hampshire. People in New England think that they are hilarious. So for my first day of work I walked into a Mr. Potato Head on my desk. For the next year or two that I worked here, every now and again, a Mr. Potato Head would appear somewhere in my office. So, I have a collection of 4-5 Mr. Potato Heads in my office. People have fun with them as I come in to find them posed with a nip of bourbon or a red bull. Ok...I have fun with them

So, to have some fun with this assignment, I thought for my first attempt at the "zoom effect" I'd photograph the storm trooper Mr. Potato Head laying waste to a sea of the other Mr. Potato Heads and their misc parts.

A few of my shots with the "zoom effect." I definitely learned a few things:

EDIT. In reviewing the pictures, I decided this was my favorite and is my entry:

    Thanks for viewing....Brant
