    Landscape: Imaginary Aurora, Banff

I stayed out until 2:00 this morning hoping the aurora would make a splash in our neighbourhood. The show was on, but from I can tell the interplanetary magnetic field had the wrong polarity so the stream didn't turn in our direction. Anyhow it was fun being out there with the moonlight, and sharing the night with a host of other astro-geek photographers.

    Landscape: Starry Night

This shot cost me my intervolometer. I had the tripod in the water with the camera about 8" above the water surface. The cord was draped over the camera, and it slipped off into the lake. A bag of rice did not bring it back to life.

    Single shot
    EF 24 mm f/1.4L
    f/2
    24 seconds
    3200 ISO

Edit: I am hoping to go to this spot tonight and see if I can get some northern light action there also. It looks like it will be clear (unlike last night), and the lights are supposed to be active. But I may be to far south. I was seriously thinking of driving 250 miles north to the "Wilderness National Dark Sky Park", but my old body keeps talking me out of it.

    Great entries this week everyone!

For Portrait, I am picking Sean's "Alaura in a Magical Place"

For Landscape, I am going to go with Pat's "Starry Night". I really liked Diana's, Imaginary Aurora, and The Fisherman. They all were very well done and visually striking, but I had to go with the milky way and it's reflections in the water. I have been trying for a good night for a Milky Way shot, but keep getting clouds. This was definitely on my mind. I did want to mention that I really liked the colors of Sunset on Lake Marion. The cool blues and greens mixed together was something. The history in The Old Supreme Court Chamber was pretty cool. I haven't seen a photo of that place done in this manner.

Again, great photos this weekend everyone. I really enjoyed trying to pick a favorite.
