    Thanks all!

(I personally like the backdrop of out of focus sunlight filtered through trees, but it cost me a pair of ruined pants to get it lying down in the wet moss. Lesson learned: Bring roll mat next time.)

You do what you have to do to get the shot.

    You can buy more pants.

Bryan just reviewed something that would have been useful.

... but it's probably cheaper to buy new pants, unless you plan to do this often.

Congrats CLS! That was a great photo. I have ruined a many a pair of pants for a shot. Keep it up...totally worth it!

Pat, thanks for the compliment. I didn't really think of the stick sticking out, but now that you mention it...it is pretty distracting. I'll have to remove it. Try to remove stuff from the frame before hand, but its hard to see those things using a 10 stop and it is almost night. :-).

That one could have been useful for the camera, but my leather glove ground pod did the job OK. What I didn't have was a "ground pod" for me (a fairly big guy), and I'm not sure this thing would be able to fix that .

You can make a cheap one with an old frying pan. Take the handle off and screw an arca swiss type clamp to the bottom of the pan (inside/center) to mount the lens or camera to. If you need a little more weight (and to deaden the sound when sliding), pack small sand bags inside the pan around the mount.

I think I read something a few years ago from Art Morris that describe something he used that was similar.
