The Red Headed Woodpecker may be the most striking of the 6 different woodpecker species I have recorded in my back yard. I always enjoy it when they show up and are willing to pause a moment or two. This was a very cloudy morning and I had to push the small pixels of the 5DS-r up to ISO 3200 but it worked. I did do a gentle noise reduction only on the background.

Dodged some rain drops from tropical storm Alberto. Local botanical garden, some sort of saw palmetto - and yes the tips of the leaves are sharp, I will spare you the pic of the puncture wounds.

This seemed to me to speak as some sort of dragons nest or something.

The opening in this bromeliad is about 30mm or so.
