We had the first snowfall down in the valley here. A good occasion to go out once to sun came back.

This morning's sunrise, over the Bow River in Banff National Park. When I saw the forecast was -30 C with light clouds, I knew I had to go here since the rocks would be nice and frosty and there would be mist over the water. To my amazement, I wasn't the only crazy one out there --- four other people showed up too!

I am moving to Canada...or maybe not - but the scenery you keep showing us tempts me, great shot!
Off topic, I (and likely most of us hanging around here) can really understand your reasoning, but less photography-interested people may find us strange: "When I saw the forecast was -30 C with light clouds, I knew I had to..."
A) "...stay inside and try to find my thickest socks."
B) "...go outside really early before the temperature rises and use no (or thin) gloves."
C) "...light up the fireplace and stay close to it."
Thanks for the chuckles! --- I'm sure there are times when we've all been considered by non-photographers to be a few fries short of a Happy Meal. I think of Sean's photo shoot in the barn, as an example. But these are the times where the best shots, and the best memories, are made.
When I was done shooting, I spotted my reflection in my car window and thought I should grab one more photo... this time with my cell phone:

Awesome! That's a great after shot. The sunrise was pretty good too. :-)
It's been unusually cold in Seattle for several days. As a result the mist from Snoqualmie Falls (about 20 mi. east) is freezing and delivering quite a sight. It was a great excuse to try out my new 10 stop ND.

^^^^^Awesome shot, Patrick. I just bought the Foundation Kit and two adapter rings (77 and 82), plus the three grads (.3,.6,.9) to go with my Big Stopper. I just need to get to the post office to get my package. Hopefully tomorrow.
Thanks Mark :)
Enjoy your delivery! I'd also like to experiment with a holder and some graduated filters at some point.
Really well done Patrick. Looks like tricky lighting.
Thank you. It was a bit tricky. The sun was just above the frame. I tried shading with my hand above the hood but still had a bit of flare to contend with. The mist from the falls was also picking up a bit of the sun, obscuring detail in the rocks. Quite a bit of variation from shot to shot. All good fun! :)
Two pictures taken this weekend on Réunion island.
The first I'm quite happy with. 500D, 70-200 F/4 IS @ 1/4000, F/4, 200 mm ISO1600

The second while not very well framed or exposed does have a fun moment of "oh there was a bird in the hole in the clouds" when looking through the pictures in the evening. 500D, 17-55 F/2.8 IS @ 1/4000, F/3.2, 42 mm, ISO 1250

The snow finally came back this week. I took advantage of my first day of ski to take some pictures. Here is the Mont Blanc again.

Pierre - Another beauty. Thanks for sharing... I love the mountain shots.
Here is a lighthouse at the top of the lower peninsula of Michigan. In the background is the suspension bridge that connects the upper and lower peninsulas. It was taken in October - no time to deal with it until now.

Not the exact same framing....I should try that sometime. But similar.

Brant:
I really like the last one. I was surprised that you took that with the "M".
I was in a business trip in northern Indiana, so I took a quick ride up to St Joseph, MI to catch the sunset.

Nice shot Pat.
The "M" is a pretty darn capable camera. In terms of IQ, I liken it to the 7D, which isn't that surprising considering that they both have 18 MP cropped sensors. It's funny, but as a hobbiest, ultimate IQ isn't always the driving factor for me in my selection of gear. I enjoy the actual act of shooting with a dSLR more than I enjoy shooting with the M. Granted, I also like the benefits of FF over a crop sensor, lens selection, etc. Here, my wife and I were headed out to dinner, but I knew I would want a shot of the sunset behind Boston. Taking the 5DIII really wasn't an option so I took the "M". That is the niche it fills for me.
@PatrickH....beautiful scene and a nice job capturing it.
@Pierre...beauty
@conropl....very nice scene and composition.
@Brant....took your wife out to eat? Where, Terminal A food court....what a romantic. LOL Seriously, that side of the airport has tremendous sunset views of BOS. I'm surprised at the 30 second shot w/out a filter....the M does a really nice job.
Ha.....yep...she gets her Sbarro, I get my Panda Express and we happily meet in the middle. That is how I make my marriage work, food court style ;)
The shot was taken on a walk way by the Water Shuttle and Hyatt Harborside. My other favorite spot to photograph Boston is along the Charles River just down from the MIT campus.
That's where I shot the panoramas – one during the day, one at night, from the same spot with the same settings (except shutter speed) – that I overlaid, gradient blended, then warped into this shot:

Sambisu...I really like that shot. Great detail throughout. It emphasizes the green tint, but that gives it a unique feel that I really like in that I think most other shots I see of arches try to emphasize the reds.
A few I took after a dinner in Portsmouth, NH.

Brant:
All three look really nice. I am traveling, and can only view with my phone, and they look great. I need to view these beauties large when I get home later.
It looks like you got the right time of night to get that nice night blue sky. Is that the moon rising/setting?
Pat
Sent via taptalk
Thanks Pat. That is a moon setting. These are all photos from day 1 of the trip. A couple more days for me to process. I could go back to Arizona several times before I even come close to running out of scenery to take pictures. A very photogenic State.
Great pictures Brant. I especially like the first one.
A simple one from today.
