Me too, this doesn't really help support my idea that selling the 100mm macro was a good idea:( You still got very close! Nice!

Yeah too little use, too much weight in the bag and I needed the money to help fund my other hobby...a new mountainbike:o To be honest we have had very bad macro seasons the last two years so it had been used very little. I am currently looking if extension tubes are a good option. Otherwise I might be looking at a used 100mm (non-L) macro.
As for your kit-lens. It works pretty good. For fun(experimenting) you could take it off the camera, hold it reversed to your camera and take a shot. You can get very magnified pictures that way. You would need to have good light I think. A (pop-up)flash helps. There are even adapters on the market to attach your lens reversed to your camera. I would say, just try it out:o
I definitely don't mind the fog on that one Denise.
Great picture

The first three were from a river boat tour of the Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge. A troop came very close to the river. The last was from Manuel Antonio NP.
Thanks for viewing....Brant
Brant - Wow... nice shots. That must have been a great trip.

How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood.
This guy was in my backyard this weekend.
Brant;
Great shots of the howler monkees. Love the one of the mother and her baby, really great to get a shot like that.
The Cano Negro area is great isn't it? We went there a couple years ago. It's great that you can see alot of wildlife in a small area. It's not like that in most other areas. We found that in the amazon basin, there are still alot of animals, but they have alot more space to hide...so it's sometimes harder to find the same diversity of wildlife as in smaller areas like Cano Negro.
Stephen
Thanks Pat. It was a great trip. I'd recommend Costa Rica to anyone...as long as they can tolerate the roads....
Stephen. Cano Negro was great. I wish I had more time. I went there expecting to see a ton of birds, but only saw a few (but a lot of other wildlife). I don't think our boat tour made it very far into the refuge and I have a feeling there is a lot more to see. Next time I will go with one of the more specialized tours that are out longer. I enjoyed all of the parks I went to as we had good luck in Carara and Manuel Antonio National parks as well. That is interesting about the Amazon, but makes sense. The farmland around each of Costa Rica's parks/refuges likely does consolidate the wildlife.
Still processing photos :).
Hi Brant, fantastic shots of those howler monkeys, sounds like a a great trip. You probably didn'y know where to point your camera next. Lovely detail and exposure on those shots.
Great stuff on this thread too. Here is a little addition from me.
Weather was kind of gray but I still got some okay shots of deer and a first for me: a fox! :)
The first one is very heavily processed as it was very dark and I saw them when I was walking to the field but it makes for an interesting photo nevertheless.

Thanks for viewing and keep up the good work everyone!
Great shots! I've never seen a fox in real life as well. Cool:)
Thanks Jan. I've seen one before a few times.Even quite near my home here in the city since we have a large park and some small forest and hill patches around here. But this was the first time I had my camera ready and was prepared for one. It was so great that he came back near the hunting tower where I was sitting since I thought I was late and wouldn't see him again after the early morning encounter.
While out hiking yesterday I spotted a herd of red deer grazing in a clearing in the forest. I think the snow at higher levels had driven them down the hill. I have often got shots of the backside of a deer running away from me, but this time I think they had safety in numbers as they kept a watchful eye on me. It's a shame that the longest lens I had with me was 200mm, so this is cropped to about a quarter of the frame.

That was a good kayak trip...hmmmm...makes me want to get on the water.....
The 135L at its best is an amazing lens. Taken with 60D at f/5.6. I think this is pretty amazing detail on the bee for a non-macro lens taken from this distance.

Nice work everyone: DD, I really like the the little Robin and th treatment really adds to it. Dave, The second bee shot is outstanding.
Well, I don't usually take shots of nature, but I liked this little guy. He sat and posed for a good 2 minutes while I had my camera in hand.

Very nice shot Sean especially since this isn't really in your usual realm of subject matters! Also, the Kenko seems to work really well for you! I've been wondering how one would perform on my Sigma zoom.
Well, now that the baby robins have flown the nest a bit too soon and survived the hunting instincts of my dogs, I now find that I have a bunny nest in my yard! Being the city slicker that I am, I didn't know that is what this was at first. My daughter started to remove it from my flower garden for me & something moved from underneath it and we both bolted into the house! I looked it up online and sure enough that is what it is!
Could someone please tell me how long this little guys tend to stick around the nest before existing on their merry way!? I have no clue what I am going to do with my 3 dogs until they are gone!

Bunny nest in my flower garden! by Denise Trocio ( www.dtrociophotography.com), on Flickr
Not to worry, they'll only be there to Easter, then they have all them eggs to deliver.:p
If it is in fact a rabbit nest (looks kind of small to me) then the babies are weaned after about three weeks and can leave the nest at any point after that, but could stick around for longer.
Run across this at the edge of a pond. She was well comouflaged... I walked past it once and almost stepped on it before I noticed it. She was laying eggs, so I snapped a quick picture and moved on so I would not disturb her.

Great shot Mick, that's quite a stare!
Not sure if farm animals count as 'nature', but this sheep is on a tiny island off the west coast of Scotland. The hill beyond is on a neighbouring island.
