Nice pictures Steve. Definitely not the type of landscape I'm used to though.
Here's one from yesterday.

Nice shots, Steve. Looks like Australia is getting all the rain that we're missing.
Pierre, I envy you for your stunning vistas. Every time I go to Europe I wonder if people there take their amazing scenery and ready access to the world's most historic places for granted. I'd love to live in Europe again. I often kick myself for having wasted time while I was living there and not getting out to see more.

Thanks Mark.
In terms of scenery, I think the USA (or Canada) residents shouldn't be envious. You've got some awesome natural parks, and I would really like to visit even some less known parts of America. The difference is maybe that in central Europe, people have always been living in the mountains, and it resulted in a lot of wonderful places to visit, with small villages in inaccessible places, leaving you wondering about how they did live there when life was a lot more difficult, and why they decided to settle there. As I said elsewhere, tourism changed a lot of things around here in the last 50 years.
Do people realize how lucky they are with this exceptional environment ? People living in my region are really proud of their origins, and part of them have a special bond with nature, but others don't seem to mind. I realized how wonderful the region is when I started working in the less mountainous parts of Switzerland (some of them are beautiful too, by the way). I missed the mountains as soon as I left them.
I've seen on your blog that you made a trip to Great Britain, with great pictures of Bath. It looks like you still have opportunities to make up for the time you wasted before. Don't worry too much though, I've been living in Europe since my birth, and if I had to count the time wasted, I'd be quite depressed.

Pierre, just awesome.
A bit of a natural follow-up to the few maternity photos I posted a little while ago, below is my latest creation (both photographic and otherwise):

Stephen,
Great work on both counts....congratulations!

Great images above (I really like Steve's cemetery and Tounis' mountainscape pictures especially). This is one of my go to spots that's a quick drive from my place. Anytime I have some free time and the sky looks remotely promising, I head out here for some therapeutic photographing.

On the last day of my short vacation in the mountains I decided to pay a little visit to the Mont Blanc. Nothing great but the view was nice enough for me to post I think.

Nice tune Steve....your pitch was perfect. I am impressed ;).
Beauty of a shot John.
Wow, lots of great shots here! Very nice everyone.
Pierre...more of this and I think I will rearrange my holidays towards Switzerland:rolleyes:
Don't worry, I had plenty of time to take pictures of bread and coffee mugs. During the whole week, we had the choice between heavy snow and thick fog. Most of the time I wasn't able to see the other side of the valley. I can tell you that mountain is boring in these conditions. On the other hand, one day of good weather was enough to make up for it.
It's funny that you are the one who says this. In fact, there's been a tradition of dutch tourists coming to this particular valley for many years now. A guy coming from the Netherlands fell in love with the place and opened an hotel at least 40 years ago. It created a special relationship with dutch tourists. I always thought they were very brave to do such a long travel with their cars several times a year, as many of them do.
John, your picture is just perfect.
@ Neuro, beautiful shot John, columns, reflected columns and tones all perfect. Really like the yellows against the inky blue sky.
Tounis - It looks like you had a productive time in the mountains, and I have enjoyed getting a glimps of the beautiful areas of Switzerland.
John - That is a great shot. I really like the refections and the starburst in the archway.
The Americans and Canadians here are scratching their collective heads. ;)
Amsterdam to Lucerne - 8 hours
Chicago to Boston - 16 hours
Vancouver to Quebec City - 48 long hours
When Sarah and I were planning our UK trip, we were thinking we wouldn't have time to drive from London to the British west coast. I mean it was clear across the country. Then you look at the driving times and it's what we drive when we go to Indianapolis for the day to shop. :D
Awesome pics, though. I'd have to drive 3 days to get anywhere near mountains like that.
Vancouver to Quebec now that would be a good drive.
Brisbane to Perth is only 4350 kms about a 46 hour drive. A lot of desert to cross and doesn't interest me. But Canada. .....mmmm...
John, that shot is absolutely stunning!! That would make a beautiful huge print!
This is a photo of my granddaughter taken a couple days ago. I am still trying to figure out how to apply backgrounds in post and make it look natural! Takes practice I guess!

Thanks for viewing.
Not only a beautiful photo of Bo but that tiger photo is gorgeous!
Thanks Denise I didn't feel like trying to fix or alter the flash reflection in the glass. No motivation.
But the tiger is actually a pastel print of one of the tigers at Australia Zoo. It was one of a hundred that were done as a tribute to Steve Irwin. It hangs proudly in the office.
I was supposed to get out into the field this weekend, but I think the midwest ice storm will keep me at bay. Thus, I edited a photo from last fall (and yes, this is the proper orientation of the photo; note the eggs hanging from the ceiling of the cave):
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8240/8...a38ce4a9_b.jpg
Lovely shot Denise!
Steve I can't believe that is the same as the cute blue eyed cat from a year ago or so...
Dustin, that looks really cool. Never knew they hang their eggs as well.
Well mechanics at my work sometimes drive back and forth in 2 days to Switzerland to do maintance on machines. It's actually about 10h drive from where I live, but never been even close to it. My girlfriend and I haven't decided our destination for this summer yet. We'll see where the weather will bring us.
Scratch it again if you realize the gas price over here is twice as high:o And if you're unlcuky and drive only a little too fast and get flashed... you better not be in the Netherlands or in Switzerland;)
First attempt at doing something like this! I had an apple starting to go bad and had nothing better to do with it ...only problem was that Buddy wasn't too thrilled about me using his tennis ball for the experiment! His little pink nose ended up in a number of the photos :-)

Very cool! You have to tell us how you did that. It seems to me you actually stitched the zipper to the apple. How did you avoid wrinkles on the apple surface?
/Eldar
Thanks! I know it is rather wierd but it gave me a chance to practice using some tools in photoshop that I don't normally use. I saw a video on this and thought I would give it a try. It really is rather simple and only involves about 3 layers. I could have gotten more creative with it but didn't really spend much time on it. Basically, it involves taking three photos, one of an apple (or whatever you want to place the zipper on), a photo of a zipper (best to use on that is attached to something black) and a photo of what will be inside the apple.
The two tools that I used that I don't normally are the transform tool to open the apple and the liquify tool to stretch the zipper over the edge of the apple.
Here is the video I got the idea from. Best advice I can give is to make sure you open the zipper wide! The liquify tool isn't the easiest tool to use and the wider the zipper is opened, the less liquifying you will need to do. I had to use it alot and it was a pain!

Nicely done! I've seen more of those type of shots and always wondered how they did it. Thanks for the explanation and the video. Really cool!
Pretty cool processing Denise.
It's already two weeks ago, but me and my girlfriend went for a walk in the snow. Since that day was our 6 years anniversary she wanted some new photos of us...she got em:
