Do you have a 'regular' Speedlite or other external flash? If so, you can add an OC-E3 (or cheaper 3rd party equivalent) and just handhold the flash. Even without the off-camera cord, you can add light with your flash. This shot was one of my early attempts with my then-new 100L Macro - during the exposure, I moved my 430EX II to a couple of points around the flower and fired it manually (with the pilot/test button on the flash):

Don't have a Speedlite? That's ok - try a flashlight! The shot below was one of my first with my MP-E 65mm, before I picked up the MT-24EX Twin Lite. This day lily stigma was lit with a handheld LED Maglite:
