If you're shooting in a location that will allow you to bounce the flash, then the 580EX would suit your needs, I believe. However, outdoors is another story; there, radio triggers are your best bet. I'd suggest looking into some cheap ones like the RF-602 radio triggers on Ebay to see if you can tolerate using the flashes in manual mode.


If you have the time and patience to learn, you can do quite a bit with manually controlled flashes (and a few modifiers). Here are a couple of shots from my last two sessions (the bottom being a self-portrait). I use Cybersyncs to fire my flashes, but I imagine the RF-602s would suit you just fine...
