They do have nearly identical markings ... the Hairy is quite a bit bigger but unless they are side by side you can't tell that way.Originally Posted by ddt0725
Notice the length of the bill....on a Downy it will be less than half the front to back size of the head (ie it's very short) and the Hairy has a bill longer than half the head. Here is a Downy.....
