Had a little photoshoot of the wife today. I love that she humors me.

This shot was actually a compilation of 5 shots stitched together in photoshop. I had the idea to do this shot pretty randomly and thank goodness I had the time to set it up, if it hadn't been this free weekend, might not have done it.



5D mark II + 85mm f1.8 @ 85mm f8 1/200 ISO-400.

The two shots on the left were done with a 580 exII @ 1/2 power shot through a DIY 14" beauty dish gelled with a Cal Red 90 gel Subject left and then 45 degrees subject left. The two on the right were done with the same setup only backwards and using a Storaro Azure gel. The front shot was with a 580ex II and 1/4 CTO gell through the same beauty dish. The subject is holding a 30 inch white reflector under the frame. There is also a Vivitar 285 gridded at 1/16 power for the crown highlight.

This was a fun little shoot. My wife and I both enjoyed the result.

What a great shot Dave and what a sport your wife is. The colours and the different facial expressions work very well. Specially love the middle one with the subtle wink.

To interupt the artistic flow, here is another shot of Bo playing Bath Pong, I don't know if Bo and I invented the game, but a table tennis ball in an empty bath tub and then include a kitten is a recipe for a lot of fun.

Steve - That is funny. Why has nobody turned that into a sport before... probably because the bookies could not figure out the odds and point spread.

To be honest, I was just inside the building a few seconds prior and that shot of the chicken was kind of an impromptu portrait, If I thought about it, I probably would have narrowed it down more.

Hi Dave - heck of a shot for the totally wrong f/#. I don't know if a smaller aperture would have made it any better. Just thinking that's what I would have set it at. Of course, I've never walked outside a dark building and forgotten to adjust my settings - at least not since this afternoon.

I officially vow to never ever do portrait photography! My speedlights don't like me and I'm beginning to not like them! With every shot my speedlight was just doing whatever it wanted to! I took so many shots and only have a couple keepers.

You should try how frustrating it is when this happens in front of your paying customer and you have to keep your cool
