Trying to catch song birds in flight for a hour or so this afternoon, this was the best I came up with. I find it very very hard to track their short fast fights back and forth to the bird feeders.

Wow! At f/4.5 to DOF is not much to catch a fast bird in flight. At 10 feet the DOF is less that +/- 1/8" from nominal, and at 20 feet it is just over +/- 1/2". That would be hard to track. Impressive.

The malard was very nice also.

I was trying maximize shutter speed....didn't really stop to calculate the DOF....just another factor explaining why it's so hard to get focused on a small bird flying at close range!
