I agree with Sheiky that swimming is one of the best sports to take photos of, although I find it particularly challenging to get the right facial expression that I'm looking for. People pull all sorts of weird faces when they're taking a breath, and pro-level athletes often draw their breath so close to the water's surface that it's difficult to get much face in the picture at all.

Anyway, this is my entry.

You don't get much time to take a breath when swimming for speed, especially in a pool. You might have more luck with open water swimming, as a lot of heads get raised for visibility, and breathing is generally done higher out of the water because of water height variation.

Your butterfly swimmer has a very strange technique going on. Was this is a 50m sprint by any chance? Or just the last part of a 200m?

I believe it was the latter half of a 200m fly. His technique wasn't great, but it made for the more impressive photograph.
