Ha....I remember your post last March...I think September is the best time to go.... For night photography, do you usually use the 24 f/1.4 II or can you get by with other lenses? I've tried it a couple of times and haven't been too happy yet.

Part of the crazy weather that has been going on in the US, Wednesday was 96 F with humidity and today is expected to be 70 F and dry. In the transition we picked up 3.5 inches of rain and had a number of thunderstorms roll through....granted, nothing like what Colorado has seen...

Hey Brant -- great lightning shots! I rented the 14 mm f/2.8 last March and used it a bit alongside the 24 f/1.4. It worked well and it's definitely on my long-term wish list. I liked the fact that it doesn't warp the horizon when you tilt it up, like some other ultra-wide angle lenses do. The 24 f/1.4 is great at f/2.0 but you'll get noticeable coma wide open at the corners (on a full-frame). The big advantage is faster shutter speeds for aurora (which can move pretty fast). But for straightforward star photos, you can probably do perfectly well with a 16-35 zoom lens at f/2.8, or something equivalent.
