    "Northern Magic"

Last night the aurora came out to play, and I was very happy to be able to watch from a lakeshore in Banff National Park

    Agree with that.

Thanks --- yes it was the 24 f/1.4 LII, ISO 1600, 8 sec @ f/2.0 on my 1DX. I've wanted an aurora shot from this location for a long time, so it is extra sweet when it finally happens.

With a shutter speed of 8 seconds, the lights must have been pretty bright. You even managed some red. Really well done... I like the color reflection in the lake. Thanks for the information, and thanks for sharing.

    All:
Sorry to disrupt the competition with my comments. But then again, I think there needs to be more interaction and learning about what went into a shot. This is a good example: I would not have guessed an 8 second exposure (I was guessing another stop or two higher). Given my experience of night sky shooting, the exposure level gives me a better appreciation as to how bright the sky actually was when this was taken.

    Jonathan:

Take a look at this guys pictures from Iceland?

(Scroll down a little to see more norther lights - it is a little early in the season for the lights there).

I would love to see what you could do with a couple weeks there. Every time you get near Northern Lights you come away with outstanding pictures.
