Yeah too little use, too much weight in the bag and I needed the money to help fund my other hobby...a new mountainbike To be honest we have had very bad macro seasons the last two years so it had been used very little. I am currently looking if extension tubes are a good option. Otherwise I might be looking at a used 100mm (non-L) macro.
As for your kit-lens. It works pretty good. For fun(experimenting) you could take it off the camera, hold it reversed to your camera and take a shot. You can get very magnified pictures that way. You would need to have good light I think. A (pop-up)flash helps. There are even adapters on the market to attach your lens reversed to your camera. I would say, just try it out

The first three were from a river boat tour of the Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge. A troop came very close to the river. The last was from Manuel Antonio NP.

Brant;
Great shots of the howler monkees. Love the one of the mother and her baby, really great to get a shot like that.
The Cano Negro area is great isn't it? We went there a couple years ago. It's great that you can see alot of wildlife in a small area. It's not like that in most other areas. We found that in the amazon basin, there are still alot of animals, but they have alot more space to hide...so it's sometimes harder to find the same diversity of wildlife as in smaller areas like Cano Negro.
