I am going to put this in the nature thread as it is more nature in nature vs. BIF etc.

So the story goes like this.

Set up my chair at the shore side of my dock (it goes through a bit of cypress/pine swamp to get to the lake. Just had set down and had the tripod set up, hear a noise and looked up to glimps an eagle gliding above my pine trees. I take the camera off the tripod and hustle the 100 ft to the end of the dock to see if it landed on a tree around the lake. Nope, walk back and sit, and sit, where did all the birds/squirrels go - a solid 15 minutes, perhaps even 20.... BANG. Half way out the dock it it appears some part of a dead limb fell on the dock but it looks funny so I take a pic and zoom in..... It is the last bit of a 3 pound bass head. I look up and see.....

This one seems appropriate for the "nature" thread.

I can see why the Anhinga is nicknamed the "Snake Bird" I was actually shooting a GBH, when I saw movement out of the corner of my eye. My first impression was that this long curved black body was a snake. Of course, as soon as I could look at it I saw the above scene, with the Anhinga's body under the water.

I've had some very good luck with whale breaches this summer....I saw one breach several times off of the New Hampshire seacoast and now these from Alaska:

Awesome shots, I've never seen a Whale breach before, but I used to fish off Long Beach California and had them come up and spout quite often. Nothing can shock quite like a whale spouting just 10 feet from your 12' aluminum boat when your not looking!!

Thanks. I had only seen a whale breach from really far away about 10 years ago. This summer I've been lucky enough to be around three different whales breaching at different times. Just luck.

I can't even imagine being in a 12' boat and having one of these monsters surface 10 ft away. Crazy....
