After an unofficial experiment involving gravity and one of my battery packs for the 1D mkII, I found myself with a broken latching mechanism. Seeing as how everyone has replacement batteries listed as "back-ordered 'till who-knows-when" I was a little worried about being able to get a replacement part. I gotta say, in this regard Canon's parts department deserves a big thanks since they were able to find and send me a replacement part (saving me the headache of either finding a solution involving duct tape and/or glue or finding a third-party replacement battery... none of which have much good said about them). Thanks Canon tech guys!
