Thread: I want my 7D now!

    I want my 7D now!

After weeks and days of agony, I have finally decided on a body+lens to buy. I want the 7d and 17-55 lens and I want it NOW. I am in Canada so its $3558cad if I buy here or $3370cad on Adorama (all applicable taxes, duties and shipping have been applied to prices with the current exchange rate of 1.0835). Should I buy there, should I buy here? And should I buy now or, as my boyfriend suggests, should I wait until its closer to Christmas 'for the sales'? Which I feel are unlikely to happen BUT the price did drop for the body from $2099 to $1999...

I am deathly indecisive and have this phobia that if I don't buy now it will sell out (it applies to everything and with B&H sold out it doesn't help) I hope you guys will offer your insight!

(if I've offended anyone with the stupidity of this post, I do sincerely apologize)

Pricing notwithstanding, if you wait until the Christmas season, availability may well be non-existent. If you are serious about purchasing this setup, do it as soon as the opportunity presents itself, and spend the time between now and Christmas honing your skills with your new toys!

If you need it that bad, buy NOW! I usually prefer to buy big expensive stuff "in-country" just in case there are problems. If there are any issues, you may have to deal with customs and potentially more expensive shipping. Also, depending on who is the shipper, your brokerage fees could be quite high. I know that most couriers charge around $100 brokerage.

Here's a suggestion: Check out Camera Canada or The Camera Store. Depending on what province you live, they don't charge PST for out of province. Their shipping is reasonable - around $15. If you look at their web page, I think you should be able to beat the $3558 cadprice you indicated above. I've purchased from both places and have not had problems. Looks like both stores have what you want in stock.

    Good Luck!

Thank you for the suggestion, I checked Camera Canada but I didn't want to create an account with the camera store. They unfortunately charge both GST and PST =( The woes of living in Ontario, Canada. Why do we suck so much?

    @ jlau

I would purchase the body only and upgrade to the 24-105mm 4L (more reach), however the 17-55mm 2.8 is a great lens (should have been designated as "L")

    Check out.....

    You can also price match....

I would purchase locally for convenience.

As for waiting until Christmas....good luck.

Buy it, buy it, buy it.

You'll be that excited about getting a new toy you'll forget about the extra $200 or so in an instant. Just think of all the great shots you might miss in the mean time!!! (Mind you I'm being a bit hypocritical by holding out on buying a 70-200mm f/2.8L IS until the Version II comes)

Have fun with it - I'd love the 7D but the good old 40D will suffice for a few more shutter actuations yet.

You might want to wait to see if firmware fixes the ghosting problem, or whether a recall is needed. If recall is needed, you'll be much happier picking up a post-recall new body (speaking from experience of the 1D Mark III AF recall).

thanks for all the great suggestions. i think i'm going to end up getting it here...its between aden, merkle or this dinky camera store thats offering 3300+free gift versus everywhere else that is charging 1999+1150+stupid 13% tax. i dont want to give that dinky store my money though because he was really rude to me.

regardless, i'm planning to get it if not this weekend then beginning of next. i literally can't concentrate on anything with this in the back of my mind. you're right, i probably will think the extra few hundred is well worth having the 7d in my hands...lol

as for the ghosting problem, i believe only firmware update is necessary.

As for the 1D Mark III autofocus problem, Canon only thought firmware updates were necessary. At first. Then came white dots and blue dots.
