    cybersyncs?

I'm looking to invest in a set of cybersync triggers unless someone can convince me of a better alternative. I'm not totally sure what the difference is between the different cybersyncs. I'm using a canon 5DmII body, 1 nikon SB24, and 2 nikon SB25's. What exactly do I need from cybersyncs? And do I need any cables? Thanks.

As far as the Cybersyncs are concerned, you need:

CST - this is the transmitter that goes in the camera's hotshoe

CSRB - this is the battery powered receiver

You'll also need a way to connect your CSRB to your shoe-mount flashes. Personally, I like the Female Hotshoe with Miniphone Jack from flashzebra. You can use the Female Hotshoe with Miniphone Jack with an umbrella swivel that clamps down on the hotshoe (like this), or else you can use it with an umbrella swivel that allows for the use of a threaded stud on top (like this).

The Cybersyncs come with several different cables. You'll be fine with the supplied cables; else you can purchase a miniphone to miniphone (mono) cable in a length that better suits your needs.

I love my cybersyncs. Never had a problem with them! And Sean said everything I was going to say and then some

    You'll love cybersyncs.

May I ask what happened to your ctr-301p's?

I'm guessing that with his 5D he wants to get every bit of the measly 1/200th max sync speed and the CTR-301Ps just won't deliver over 1/160th (my experience).

Of course, I used to suggest the CTR-301ps because, at the time, they were (what I believed to be) the best affordable wireless triggers. However, I think that position has been supplanted by the newer RF-602s. Even though I've never owned them, the 602s would be my current recommendation for cheap triggers (with Cybersyncs being my recommendation for the mid-level range).

Got to say, Sean covered it all. As for my experience w/ the Cybersync, they have been wonderful. Very reliable and it can transmit quite a distance.

sorry for the late reply, I've been so busy with work I don't even have time to sleep. But anyway, I still have my ctr-301p's. I will keep them as a back up triggering system. I found they worked great when using 1 or 2 strobes, but they became a bit of a hassle when using 3 for some reason. They tended to not all fire when I had 3. And the batteries they use seem to have run out of juice on me several times already. Has anyone else experienced this? The batteries aren't that cheap at $11 each and having to buy 3 every time they go out.

I'm looking to get more in to portrait photography and just want to invest in a triggering system that is far more reliable because when I have lighting, focus, getting a model to pose, and much more to worry about, the last thing I need is for the trigger to not fire. So that's why I'm contemplating investing in some cybersyncs unless someone has another suggestion. Pocket wizards are more than I'd like to spend right now.

Now that you mention it, I did have some issues when testing 3 CTR-301s at the same time (however, I shrugged it off as a battery issue at the time). With Cybersyncs, I've never had a problem--and you can buy alot of AAs for $11.
