    Off Camera Flash..again

G'day flash gurus, this question highlights my naivety, but anyway, what are the power options for off camera flash/lighting in remote locations where you cannot lift a rock and find an outlet?

I have the 580, umbrella and tiny softbox set-upso I know how to charge batteries.

But with the next step up in softboxes and lighting how do you get the light to turn on?

In some pictures posted here the lighting set-up looks as though it is about ready to gang tackle the subject/model(little old fit footballer). How is all this gear powered?

    Thanks, Steve.

When using studio strobes on location, I use the Paul C. Buff Vagabond II (attached to the left lightstand and acting as a stabilizer). Plug it in and leave it charging until you need to use it, and then it gets the job done.

Do you have a radio trigger on a flash in the umbrella? Or is it just reflecting the light from the strobe? Because her left arm is a little darker than the right.

Or is it just shading the sun, because her left hip is well lit?

Ohh and by the way, you are lucky your roadie can double as a model.

The strobe is being triggered by a Cybersync radio receiver. The receiver is in the camo bag just beneath the strobe. The umbrella on the right is simply shading the sun from the subject.

For what it's worth..you can get external batterypacks for the 580EX flash. I think it's called CP-E4and CP-E3 being an older model. I'm sure this will increase your amount of flashes, but I guess it can only fire up one. And I have no idea how it competes with the Vagabond Sean has. Anyway, external batterypacks do exist []

Edit: Oh...never mind [:$] I misread the whole thing...
