Upgrade of student CS4 to a normal or commerical version of CS5 Extended

Has anyone had any experience with upgrading from student versions of CS4. I paid for the educational version of CS4 for my son, when he was at Uni and living at home. He has since finished with Uni and living at home and I am left with the computer, which I bought and all the software, but they are education versions. I have the disks and the Serial numbers and can install CS4 on a new computer if I have to.

But, I was hoping I could upgrade from the student version and buy a normal upgrade version of CS5 extended and upgrade my student version to a normal private use copy.

This would then qualify me for the update to CS6 when it becomes available. And hopefully save some dollars.

Has anyone tried something like this with Adobe, or is this just wishful thinking on my part?

Nope haven't tried it, but here in the US we can go to Adobe's website and just click the link for the version we want to upgrade. When you log in and go to check out you will get a link to talk to a rep in chat. I would say just ask if you can use the old code for the education version to upgrade.

I doubt you will save much since the education version is already deep discounted. I just checked the website and you can buy the full student version of photoshop extended for $199, where the full version costs $999.

My thinking here Rick is the upgrade from CS4 to CS5 Extended costs $329 for a normal version. If I buy that between now and May, I qualify for a free upgrade to CS6.
But it won't work if I cannot upgrade from the student version to just a normal private version. I would have thought there would be plenty of students that had education versions, but no longer are studying, for an update do they pay for a upgrade or do they pay for a new version,$999.

I was a student and bought software at an education discount. Can I upgrade to a full version?

Adobe Student and Teacher Edition software can be upgraded to a commercial version when the user is no longer a student or teacher. Contact the online Adobe Store or your local reseller for information about upgrading to commercial versions of your products.

Thanks Dave. I think I may run into trouble because it is my son's name and not mine. Apparantly you cannot transfer ownership of student version to anybody else.
But I may be able to buy just a retail upgrade to CS6 Extended in his name and then maybe transfer that full retail version to my name. Maybe.
It gets a little complicated, but I could save myself about $500, if they allow this.

I bought CS5 direct from the adobe web site. You could probably go there and ask.

I am thinking if the full version student is $199 they are going to want $800 to make it a full version.

My experience is that student and educational versions of software CAN NOT be upgraded.
This is frequently on the packaging.

Not really apples-to-apples but I upgraded a student version of Lightroom3 to a standard version of Lightroom4.
