Speedlite 600EX vs Speedlite 600EX-RT
Just opened the Amazon box (shipped from Big Value) that had what I expected to be a 600EX-RT, and turns out they shipped a 600EX instead (the order was for the RT version). I can't even find a 600EX (sans -RT) on the Canon (or Amazon, B&H, etc.) site. I am sure someone on this forum knows what this is...if it is more valuable than the 600EX-RT, please let me know so I don't send it back!!!
I bought it because I needed/wanted an extra Speedlite, thought having the latest and greatest would be cool, and anticipate using the radio transmission feature in the future. From a quick look at the manual, it appears that the only difference between the EX and EX-RT, besides the name, is the radio transmission functions.
Thanks!

There are two versions, and your supposition is correct: the -RT version has the RF triggering capabilities and the non -RT version doesn't. Sales are geographically restricted, and only the -RT version should be available in the US. The non -RT version would be cheaper in markets where both are available.
I'd say you inappropriately a gray market item, aka ripped off.

600EX is grey market and was not released in the US.
At least according to this review;

I would send it back if possible.

Thanks for your help, it will be going back as soon as I can! It is interesting that Amazon (in the US), doesn't do a better job screening their partners. I have bought more than I want to know from Amazon, and this is the first time I felt "taken"!
The dangers of the Internet!!
Thanks.

This is why when I order from Amazon I only choose 'filled by AMAZON' and is why I am expecitng a 1-3 month delay in shipping on my AMAZON order for
two 600EX RT (note also the AMAZON price is 609 vs 629)
I also sold my 3 580EXII on amazon and they sold quidkly and efficiently.
Im just flashless right now.
When I dont shop AMAZON I stick with B&H or ADORAMA.
OR LOCAL (but so much sales tax)
