    RAM update

I needed more RAM as CS5 really was slowing down.

Point is my 4GB RAM in my iMac eventually failed some functions with the error message.

    "Insufficient RAM"

My computer store said the iMac was not easily upgradable.
But thanks to youtube I took the plunge.

OWC sells third party RAM and has excellent instructional videos on how to do this for many models of MAC going back to 2007.

I bought 16GB RAM for about $109 and installed it in under 10 minutes.
    No problems no complications.

Now I am speeding at 16GB and RAM and can use 'photomerge' in CS5 on 8 images (have not tested more) and can use 'content aware' fill on large areas with no error messages.

    Recommendations:

Updating Apple iMac RAM is EASY

yes, more RAM always helps :-)
With the latest macbook Pro Apple is not charging a super crazy amount of money for extra RAM anymore (additional $100 for 8GB vs. 4GB). Before it was always way more cost efficient to purchase the base configuration and upgrade RAM and HD on your own.

What are you going to do with all the extra time now?

ifixit is another Site that helps you update the unupdateable.
Words get in the way of what I meant to say.

You can never have enough RAM, or RUM for that matter

The new Macbook Pros aren't upgradable (post purchase) as the RAM is soldered in. That's why I went with the 16gb option for my new one. It FLIES!

I like the way you're thinking.

I wouldn't be surprised if pretty soon there are instructions on ifixit on how to use a soldering iron for that. I definitely don't like soldering but was able to replace three capacitors in my TV with instructions from the interweb.

Yes, indeed. Just like yours, 3 caps needed replacing. When I saw a youtube video on how to do the fix, I plunged right in. It's back up to speed now.
