Bag for 100-300 24-105 and two more lenses

And of course the other stuff.

Going to Africa in July/August (their winter) and taking the 100-300, 2x, 24-105 2.8 and two other of the f4 sized lenses (likely the 20 1.4 and the 16-35).

Would like it all in one bag - suspect it will be a roller, needs to be really 7" think and 8" would be better.

I could break it into two bags but that would be a bit of a pain.

    Thoughts and suggestions?

That sounds good to me. I’d have two bodies and be thinking of memory cards, system to transfer/back up photos at night, etc.

Depending on where you are going, I’ve heard it is dusty and that you need many lens wipes.

That load would fit nicely in my Peak Design 45 L Travel Backpack, though that's not a roller.

BTW, from your other post, I thought you were set with the Veo Trolley? Which looks like it has backpack straps in addition to wheels.

Are you looking for a dedicated backpack?

Looking at the dimensions of the 100-300 f/2.8, the hood is less than 6" wide. That opens up a lot of options. My bag for the 500 II is the Thinktank Firstlight. More recent models are here. Overall, very good, would recommend it. It's downside, IMO, is that it is basically a big camera cube with little other storage. But it is comfortable and fits a ton. The depth is not needed, but may be useful.

F-Stop ICUs. Most of my other gear is in an F-Stop ICU. Not only can you pick backpacks and slip the ICU in and out, but they actually fit very well in many other bags (most cubes are similar in dimension). I use mine in a bag that unfortunately is not made anymore, the Pacsafe Venturesafe x40. But you can also fit ICUs in carryon luggage, then slip out as needed.

Guragear. One of my favorite bags of all time is the Guragear Kiboko 22L It's flaw is that it is too efficient in packing and can hold too much gear. I can fit so much into it it becomes too heavy and it also is the bag where I had flight attendants threaten to not let me take it on the flight as I had overpacked it. I like it so much, it survived my bag purge after I bought the Pacsafe, but it sees little use. That said, extremely well thought out, well made, great zippers, just be careful not to overpack. If you think about this route, the depth seems a bit tight for the 100-300 with hood inverted. Let me know and I'll do some measurements. BTW, while expensive, I've picked up a Guragear duffel, that thing is great, also has backpack straps.

There is a lot of love for Shimoda bags, but not really from me. If you have a camera store near you, I'd recommend you check them out. I brought in a 25L to have a smaller, daypack type of bag. It is good, it is well made, etc. But I do not like it as much as the other bags. Material feels a bit odd, zippers aren't as smooth as other bags, and the layout, lots of compartments, but they are not as convenient as other bags.
